THE TAPESTRY PROJECT

About & our approach

Sometimes, another person’s story helps yours make sense.

Actually Autistic is an independent project sharing personal experiences from autistic adults. The Tapestry Project began after an adult autism diagnosis, when talking with an autistic peer helped put words to experiences that information alone hadn’t quite explained.

It is a lasting home for those moments of recognition: stories about daily life, work, burnout, relationships, late diagnosis and self-understanding.

Autistic adults, in their own words

We welcome diagnosed and self-identified autistic adults. Adults exploring whether these experiences resonate with them are welcome to read. You do not need diagnostic records to contribute, and you can use a pseudonym or share anonymously. Your email stays private.

How stories are reviewed

Submissions are saved privately and reviewed before publication for clarity, privacy and unsupported general claims. Substantive edits need the contributor’s approval. Sharing a story does not subscribe you to the newsletter unless you choose its separate checkbox.

Personal experience, with room for difference

Stories and “a small thing to try” suggestions describe individual experiences. They are not clinical guidance, a diagnostic checklist, or evidence that everyone will benefit from the same approach. Different experiences of the same topic belong alongside one another.

This site does not provide diagnosis, counselling, crisis response or a live peer-support service. A story may help you describe your own experience or prepare questions for a qualified professional.

Your story remains yours

You keep ownership of your writing and give Actually Autistic permission to review and publish it. Published stories are public and may be found through search engines and AI search services. Please leave out identifying details you do not want made public.

To correct or remove a story, or ask about your information, send a privacy request using the email you provided. We may need to confirm it’s you before making changes. Copies or summaries already held by external services may take time to update.
